Thomas did not invent the light bulb itself but helped improve it by making it last for many hours and allowing to be economical for the American Society. Americans were able to purchase light bulbs that were long lasting and efficient in their households. Thomas Edison started many companies that produced his new inventions worldwide. Thomas Edison allowed the United States to keep running even at night and helped make it one of the world's industrial leaders it is today.
